About Rabboni Lodge

A brotherhood rooted in history, alive in the present.

Who We Are

Although all Masonic lodges govern themselves in the same way and promote the same fraternal tenets, each lodge is unique in its composition of members. So why Rabboni, and what can you expect from forming a lifetime friendship with our brothers?

Rabboni Lodge welcomes men from all generations and walks of life. We take great pride in our members who unceasingly give of their time, treasures, and talents to fulfill the tenets of Freemasonry. The meaningful lessons during our monthly meetings, the camaraderie shared during social events, and the commitment to helping others all contribute toward offering a unique satisfaction in time well spent.

We are considered one of the most active lodges in the 6th Masonic District and in 2022 were one of only nine lodges in the entire jurisdiction to receive the Grand Master's Award. Our lodge is recognized for excellent degree work, successful events, and a harmonious and genuinely fun mix of brothers from diverse ethnic, social, generational, and religious backgrounds.

We encourage you to consider Freemasonry as a means to make a difference in your life and in the lives of others. Rabboni Lodge would be honored to help you grow as a man and to leave a lasting legacy to others.

Our History

Freemasonry in Massachusetts dates back to 1733, when the fraternity made its way to Boston and then throughout America. At the corner of Boylston and Tremont streets in Boston stands the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, which governs thirty districts and hundreds of lodges. Famous Massachusetts Masons include Paul Revere, Joseph Warren, and Samuel Adams. The gift of Freemasonry is timeless, and its traditions have remained constant in a constantly changing world.

Rabboni Lodge was born in that tradition. In 1868, as the Civil War had ended, railroads and industries were being built, and steamships were landing over 20,000 immigrants on Boston's docks each year, fourteen Freemasons met to discuss the possibility of establishing a new Masonic lodge in the thriving South Boston area. It was a typically American gathering: a merchant trader, sailmaker, machinist, manufacturer, oil refiner, lumber dealers, horticulturalist, insurance agent, undertaker, and clerk. The Grand Master granted the dispensation on January 11, 1869, and Rabboni Lodge was created.

A Connection to Paul Revere

Among Rabboni Lodge's early members was William B. Revere, grandson of Paul Revere, who had himself laid the cornerstone of the Massachusetts State House in 1795. At a Rabboni Lodge meeting, William Revere spoke words that still resonate today:

“These are suspicious days when the Arts and Sciences are establishing themselves in this happy Country, distinguished from the rest of the world by being a government of laws; where liberty has found a safe and secure abode. May we, my Brethren, so square our actions through life as to show the world of mankind that we mean to live within the compass of good citizenship and that we wish to stand upon a level with them.”

The spirit that moved Paul Revere to become a Mason was the same that moves every man who seeks Masonic knowledge properly: a constructive desire to perfect himself in manly virtues and to find a field for the exercise of the fraternal instinct. That spirit lives in Rabboni Lodge today.

From Boston to Westwood

Rabboni Lodge has met in many homes over the years, from South Boston to Downtown Boston, Dorchester, Milton, and today in Westwood. This lodge has seen the cobblestones of much of Boston and provided membership to men who helped build the foundation of this city before and after American independence.

Today, Rabboni Lodge meets at 655 High Street in Westwood, Massachusetts, part of the 6th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts. We are proud of how far we have traveled and equally proud of where we stand today.

Giving Back

Freemasonry has always held charity as one of its core tenets, and Rabboni Lodge takes that commitment seriously. Our members give not just financially but personally, showing up for their communities in ways that make a real difference.

The following reflects the charitable work supported by Rabboni Lodge and our members:

  • Blood and platelet donations
  • Annual clothing drive
  • Family adoption during the holiday season, providing gifts and a holiday dinner to families in need
  • Toys for Teens during the holiday season
  • College scholarships for deserving students
  • Run to Home Base, supporting the healing of invisible wounds of war for post-9/11 veterans and their families
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Care packages for deployed soldiers
  • F1 Racing Night at F1 Boston, with proceeds benefiting the Rabboni Lodge Charitable Fund

This is who we are. We believe that becoming a better man means contributing to something larger than yourself.

Brother

Evan Weisenfeld

9 years as a Mason

What brought you to Freemasonry?

I was told my grandfather was a Mason and a Shriner so had positive vibes from an early age. In 2016 when my mother was at a Masonic healthcare facility in Pennsylvania, I spent a lot of time driving back and forth and kept hearing radio commercials. I went to an open house and here we are.

What does being a Mason mean to you in one sentence?

Being part of a group of people with similar interests and values - knowing I will have their back and they will have mine.

Who in the lodge has had the biggest influence on you and why?

There are a few people that have been a big influence including RW Rich Ryder and Bro. Joe Greif who passed away a few years ago. Their friendship and support has been really meaningful and made me feel welcome from day 1.
